Getting up to Speed on Ceragon’s PointLink Access System

Future Technologies recently participated in Ceragon’s PointLink certification training at our Atlanta facility. This comprehensive two-day session covered all system components, configuration, GUI, hardware setup and installation and commissioning.

For those who haven’t heard of PointLink, it’s a stabilized antenna platform that enables high speed point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connectivity for marine applications – something that fixed access systems simply can’t handle due to their focused beam and low tolerance for antenna movement.

The PointLink technology uses dual axis actuators and motion sensors to compensate for pitch & roll motions up to +80 /-30 degrees. This is further enhanced with highly accurate GPS-based heading information to ensure a unique pointing accuracy even under highly dynamic conditions. Unlike satellite systems, which offer low bandwidth and high latency, a PointLink system paired with microwave radios can deliver Gigabit speeds with sub-millisecond latency.

Needless to say, our team was very impressed with this technology and the wide range of marine applications this solution supports, such as oil rigs, cruise ships, ferries, fisheries, navy, coastguard and supply vessels, among others.

Now that we are fully certified to design and deploy PointLink systems, we look forward to providing this innovative connectivity solution for our oil and gas and maritime customers.
